Breast Reconstruction Google Review

“Dr. Chhatre and his staff are incredible. My experience is unique and challenging. In 2006 I underwent a bi-lateral mastectomy followed by an immediate reconstruction done by a surgeon in Nebraska. Throughout the last 9+ years I experienced increased pain and my reconstruction began to look distorted. I came to Dr. Chhatre for a consultation to see what options, if any, I had. After a thorough physical exam, review of my medical history, and answering ALL my questions, Dr. Chhatre preformed a bi-lateral reconstruction of my original reconstruction. My results are stunning and more importantly, I am no longer in pain. Dr. Chhatre’s Clinical Assistant, Jennifer, was an amazing force during this entire process. She not only worked to secure insurance pre approvals for my surgery, but also was knowledgeable, honest, and helpful from the 1st consult to my last post op visit.  Thank you to Dr. Chhatre and Jennifer and the entire staff who were simply extraordinary throughout my entire surgical and healing process.”

What Is Breast Reconstruction?

Breast reconstruction surgery is a procedure performed after one or both breasts have been removed. Breast removal may be performed as a part of an individual’s cancer treatment, or may comprise a double mastectomy to preserve a patient’s health and reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. During an initial consultation, Dr. Chhatre works closely with each patient to discuss realistic goals post surgery – often viewing real before and after photos of prior patients’ work – and decide on which type of treatment will best meet your unique needs.

Am I A Candidate For Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

Breast reconstruction candidates should be:

  • In good general health
  • Interested in alternatives to an external prosthesis
  • Desire permanent correction of imbalanced breasts

Oftentimes, immediate reconstruction is possible and is performed in the hospital following a mastectomy. Whether you will be eligible for immediate reconstruction is a decision that you will need to discuss with your care providers and depends on a number of factors, including the overall condition of your health. If immediate reconstruction is possible, firstly, a tissue expander is placed in the chest and gradually expanded as the prosthetic is filled with saline. These appointments are roughly once every 10-14 days and once the skin is sufficiently stretched, an implant will replace the expander. The third step of the procedure includes nipple reconstruction, which is typically performed using a skin graft from the patient’s inner thigh.

If reconstruction is only needed for one breast, we strive to match the natural breast as closely as possible, mimicking size and shape. Reconstructing one or both breasts has several benefits, including an impressive effect on a woman’s self esteem and view of her body as whole, healthy and feminine. Dr. Chhatre finds this type of work particularly rewarding, and is proud to be able to offer a high level of breast reconstruction care.
