Are Implants Right For You?
A breast augmentation procedure can bring the breasts into proportion with the rest of your body, improve symmetry, and restore lost volume after weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Most women who desire larger breasts are breast augmentation candidates. Dr. Matt Chhatre performs cosmetic surgeries at his Kansas City, MO-area practice, and has helped many patients achieve the breast size and shape that best complements their bodies. If you have considered breast augmentation, and would like to find out it the procedure is right for you, please contact our practice to make an appointment with Dr. Chhatre. At that time, we can also discuss cost, implant options, and other aspects of surgery.
Determining Your Candidacy For Breast Augmentation
Good candidates for breast augmentation are in good overall health, and do not suffer from any conditions that may interfere with the ability to heal. Be sure to inform Dr. Chhatre at your initial consultation if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, or bleeding tendencies. Good candidates will be at or near their target body weight, and not currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients should also be non-smokers, or at least willing to quit using tobacco products for a period leading up to and following their surgeries.
Patients who choose to use saline implants as part of their breast augmentation procedures must be at least 18 years of age. For those who want silicone implants, including cohesive gel (gummy bear) implants, the minimum age required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is 22 years old. Placing breast implants in younger patients is only permitted in corrective surgeries such as those that follow injuries, or address congenital deformities.
Benefits Of A Breast Augmentation Procedure
Following your breast augmentation surgery, an enhanced figure is the most obvious benefit, but there are several other advantages as well. Many patients will experience a significant boost in their self-confidence, which can have a profound effect on their quality of life. After surgery, many women are excited about all of the new clothing options available to them. For example, patients who may have avoided low-cut garments can now feel comfortable and confident wearing flattering clothes.
Another benefit of breast augmentation surgery is that it can restore lost volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some patients choose to combine the procedure with a breast lift. Adding size and enhancing the contours of the bustline can have a dramatic effect, and some patients choose to combine the procedure with liposuction and other treatments for a complete mommy makeover following childbirth.
