Cosmetic injectables have become one of the most sought after aesthetic procedures available today. Specifically neurotoxins such as Botox and Xeomin. With their efficacy in the treatment and prevention of expression lines, it’s no wonder their popularity. We proudly offer both products at our Kansas City area Medical Spa. What is a Neurotoxin
Unlike injections such as fillers that ‘fill the skin’, neurotoxin is an injectable solution that temporarily blocks nerve receptors in the muscle. The effect of this is weakened muscles that are used to make expressions. By not being able to fully lift your brows, frown or squint your eyes to cause lines, it in return prevents the lines from forming and staying. It is also helpful in the reduction of current lines, however, multiple and consistent treatments may be required to see the best results. If you’re interested in learning more about Botox or Xeomin, contact our office today. Our talented nurse injector, Anne, will guide you through the best options and treatment plan for your skin type, muscle strength and specific desires.
Xeomin Vs. Botox
Xeomin and Botox both contain botulinum toxin type A. Despite the face that these products have the same active ingredient, there are some slight differences. The main difference is Xeomin contains a ‘naked’ form of botulinum toxin. While Botox contains an accessory protein, Xeomin effectively delivers the toxin without and additional proteins. This structure may be helpful in the prevention of antibody resistance. Aside from the storage of the product, due to the protein differences, Botox and Xeomin are very similar.
Both Botox and Xeomin have FDA approval for the treatment of facial lines. There is not one product we prefer over the other, however, sometimes it is helpful to switch between the two for long standing results. Each company offers rewards programs to their consumers to help with cost to maintain treatments. Our office will help you get set up, if you aren’t a member already.
