Preparing for the big day

I can’t believe the big day is almost here!!  I’m not going to lie, this has been the longest/slowest week I can remember.  I have been slammed here in our MedSpa getting everyone in I can before I’m off next week.  I’m exhausted, but the days are getting fewer and fewer and I will be getting plenty of rest soon!  I’m really loving doing these blogs- the positive response has been so awesome! Thanks to everyone for your support- I definitely appreciate it and love sharing my story with everyone.  The amount of people that this has stirred up conversations with has been amazing.  At this point I’m pretty anxious.  I’m not really nervous about the surgery. I am 100% confident in Kansas City Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Chhatre and all of my girls here.  I know they will all take amazing care of me, and I am going to love my results.  I’m more anxious about after.  I’m a bit of a planner, and I have no idea what to expect.  I have had at least 10 of my clients this week that have had breast implants or breast implants and a breast lift with Dr. Chhatre.  Each one of them has told me about their after experience and each one is completely different.  I like to think I’m pretty tough, and I’m definitely used to my muscles being sore, so I want to say I’ll be good, but the reality is there is no way to know.  I have done my best to prepare for everything I can at home and I thought I would share with you a few of the things I’ve done to help anyone else getting ready for surgery.

So, this week was my last session with my personal trainer until Dr. Chhatre releases me following my breast surgery.  I would say the whole ‘not working out’ thing is giving me more anxiety than anything.  If you refer to my first blog and see my very first before picture, I think you can understand why.  Bottom line is- I’m scared.  I have come so far that I’m afraid of regressing.  Now- the logical part of my brain knows that I will be fine, and that girls that live the same life style as myself do this every day, but there is still that small fear in the back of my head.  I have been pushing myself extra hard for the past two weeks, I’ve continued with my normal weight training and I have increased my cardio to a full hour every day, so I think I’ll actually be ready for some time off come Monday.

I have tried to get as prepared as possible at home.   The recovery process here after breast augmentation and breast lift surgery is typically pretty fast and all surgeries done in our State accredited surgery center in our office are done with IV sedation.  This makes for a much easier and faster recovery.  I’m a little worried about being silly after, but I’ve been assured by my husband and a few co workers that they will capture my goofy behavior for everyone to see.  Following the procedure they will have me taking an antibiotic, a pain pill and a muscle relaxer.  This is especially important the first few days, even if I’m not feeling terrible, to stay on top of the pain. I have these filled and ready at home along with a stool softener to proactively take due to the pain medication.  I also have several bags of frozen peas to use as ice packs to help with pain and swelling.  We recommend the peas because they are softer than ice and form to the shape of the breast.

Following this type of procedure, it’s important to wear  something that doesn’t have to be pulled over the head.  Wearing a shirt or jacket that button’s or zips is recommended for 2 reasons- 1) someone else is dressing you while you’re still waking up from anesthesia  and 2) lifting of the arms won’t be too easy or feel very good.  So I went to target and got a couple soft flannel button down shirts to live in next week.  When I wake up from the surgery, they will already have a bra on me.  It is a soft cotton-hook in the front bra.  I went ahead and ordered 4 more so I would have a variety, because I will be living in those bras for several weeks during the healing process.

As far as sleeping, obviously I will have to be on my back, and I will need to be elevated for a while.  When I get home on Monday, I will probably spend most of my time in the recliner, but I do have a bed in my spare room ready.  My bed is too tall and I have to push with my arm to get on it, that won’t be something I’ll be able to do for a bit, so the spare room bed is lower to the ground for me to get in and out of easier.  I will have to kick my 2 favorite four legged companions out of the room for a while, but they have little regard of personal space and I’m afraid that they would step on my chest, trying to get some love.  It will be a few days before I can take an actual shower, so I have some dry shampoo ready to try to keep my hair in check, but that may not be something I’m too worried about.

I have stopped all of my supplements, pre-workout and blood thinners like aleve or ibuprofen as of last Sunday, so, basically I’m tired and sore 🙂  I have been able to continue with my allergy medicine, B12 and coffee- LOTS of coffee!  I stopped training my chest 5 weeks ago in the hopes it will be easier for Dr. Chhatre to dissect behind my muscle to place the implant and that it will cause less pain for me.  One of my most favorite things is to get massages.   I get one every month, so I have one scheduled for Saturday since it will be a while before I can lay on my stomach to get one.  Sunday I plan on spending the day deep cleaning and food prepping.  I won’t be able to really scrub, wipe or vacuum anything that week, so I want to start with everything perfect.  As far as the food goes, I have no idea what my appetite will be like, so I’m not going to cook too much.  I have protein powder, almond milk, frozen berries and yogurt ready for some smoothies.  I will have some veggies to snack on and a few other things readily available in the fridge.

I will be posting some photos and checking in on our facebook page, so make sure you’re following us.  I’m hoping to get a blog done a few days after surgery(Monday), but it will depend on how I’m feeling. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation, contact our office any time and thank you for following me on this exciting journey!
