Radiesse® (formerly known as Radiance) is a biocompatible, non-toxic, non-allergenic filler that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose while also being able to fill in certain types of scars.
Radiesse® is an FDA approved, next generation filler, made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel.
Radiesse® filler is injected into the skin through a simple, safe and minimally invasive outpatient procedure, using local anesthetic. It requires little or no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities almost immediately after treatment.
While temporary, Radiesse® is one of the more long-lasting fillers. In many patients the effects of Radiesse filler may last a year or more. What sets Radiesse apart is that while most fillers are simply a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is composed of a combination of a gel as well as microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite. These spheres, unlike most gels, are resistant to absorption in your body, providing a matrix around which your body fills in collagen as the gel is digested. Thus Radiesse offers clinically proven safety and longevity. Since the microspheres are also a natural material, they are eventually absorbed by the body, hence the need for retreatment.
While alternative treatments or surgical procedures may be more appropriate in years to come as your face changes with age, Radiesse® is an excellent way to treat those fine lines around the mouth and nose.
