Abdominoplasty Questions & Answers
What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is the surgical process of removing excess fat and skin from a patient’s abdomen. A tummy tuck is also used to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall to create a leaner, tighter midsection. A tummy tuck is an excellent and effective way to remove stubborn fat pockets that are difficult to lose by diet and exercise alone.
Am I a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Any healthy individual with realistic expectations about what the procedure can and cannot accomplish are good candidates for a tummy tuck. Ideally, a tummy tuck patient will be close to or within his or her desired weight range but is having difficulty getting rid of stubborn fat pockets in the midsection, has lost weight but has excess skin, or has loose abdominal muscles.
What is the procedure for a Tummy Tuck like?
In simple terms, during a tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Chhatre will make an incision in your abdomen above the pubic bones and around the navel. The skin is then lifted, and the abdominal muscles are and tightened into a new, firmer position with permanent sutures. Excess fat is removed manually or by liposuction. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is put in place and sutured. All surgeries performed by Dr. Chhatre at Summit Plastic Surgery and Med Spa are done in the state of the art Ambulatory Surgical Center to ensure maximum tummy tuck privacy and care.
Will it hurt?
Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Chhatre will use anesthesia to ensure your maximum level of comfort during the procedure. After the surgery, you will be prescribed pain relievers and will be closely monitored by Dr. Chhatre to ensure that any pain or discomfort you experience is managed.
How long does it take to recover from a Tummy Tuck?
Recovery from tummy tuck surgery varies from person to person. Generally, you will be able to walk after tummy tuck surgery but will not be able to stand completely straight for several days. You should take it easy for at least two weeks after the surgery, although very light exercise is often good for the healing process. You will need to wear an abdominal pressure garment for several weeks after your surgery to help hold everything in place while you heal.
