Massive Weight Loss - Body Contouring

Post Massive Weight Loss Surgeries
When you have successfully lost massive amounts of fat, either as a result of bariatric surgery (gastric bypass, stapling, or lap band) or as a result of an intense program of diet and exercise, you will find that you are only halfway to your goal of having the body you've always wanted. Your body will digest the fat, but for most people who had major weight problems, the skin does not have sufficient elasticity to return to its previous size and shape. Therefore, many people find that they often have a number of cosmetic body contouring issues that need to be addressed including:
- Excessive, loose skin of the arms—severe loose skin that requires an Arm Lift to correct
- Loose skin and tissues of the stomach—depending on the level of weight loss, this skin can hang down over the hips and pubic area, requiring an extended body lift, sometimes called a belt lipectomy. See the Tummy Tuck section of the website for more information.
- Sagging skin of the thighs, buttocks, knees, and calves—A Buttock and Thigh Lift is required to treat this excess skin.
- Loss of breast fullness with extreme sagging—this requires a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) with Breast Implants to restore tone and fullness to the breasts.
- Sagging of the face and neck—A Facelift and Neck Lift are often necessary to complete the slimmer look of your face.
Massive Weight Loss creates a very complex surgical challenge, but cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Chhatre considers this to be one of his most rewarding procedures. The entire body needs to be treated at the same time, and the transformative ability of the procedure is amazing. When you have lost the weight you want to lose, your weight loss journey is nearly at an end. Dr. Chhatre can help you take those final steps.
You must also be aware, however, that the surgery does subject you to psychological and physiological stress because:
- Multistage surgery is necessary
- Higher complication rates often result from the higher stress being put on the body by the procedure. These complications can delay the surgery or even be life-threatening.
Nonetheless, Dr. Chhatre believes that, despite the risks, for those who have undergone massive weight loss, the results of this body contouring procedure are crucial to becoming the new, thinner you. He performs the procedure with an eye to minimizing risks and maximizing privacy and personal care at his brand-new Ambulatory Surgical Center. Depending on your circumstances, the procedure may be performed outpatient at the hospital, or may even require an overnight hospital stay.
