Latisse® Eyelash Extensions

Serving Kansas City, Independence & Lee's Summit, Missouri

Latisse® is an exciting new product for enhancing your eyes. It is FDA-approved for darkening, lengthening, and thickening the eyelashes, and is easy to use. At Summit Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, we are now offering Latisse® in addition to the many services we already offer for the face and skin.

Kansas City Latisse®

Our licensed esthetician, Keri, who runs the Med Spa, will be able to show it to you and explain how to use it. It comes in a kit, with a bottle of Latisse® solution and a supply of disposable applicators.

How to Apply Latisse®

Latisse® can be added to your nightly routine at bedtime. That way you will be using it regularly for best results.

  1. Cleanse your face as you would do normally and remove your contact lenses if you wear any. When you have applied any other facial products in your routine, you are ready to use Latisse®.
  2. Hold one of the sterile applicators horizontally and let one drop fall near its tip from the Latisse® bottle.
  3. Draw the applicator along your upper eyelid at the base of your eyelashes. It is the type of movement you would use to apply eyeliner.
  4. If any excess fluid remains, blot it from beneath the outer lower lid. If any gets into your eye it will not be harmful.
  5. Toss the applicator away and use a second one for the other eye. This guards against cross-contamination.

Latisse® Results

Results are not immediate, but they will gradually appear over about a month. By the end of four months you will have your full results. During that time, your eyelashes will become thicker, darker, and longer. This can make a very big difference to the appearance of your eyes and your whole face.

If you use eyelash extensions, Latisse® can be safely used as well. Eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes, each one applied separately to a natural lash. They do not change the effects of Latisse® on the natural lashes; and Latisse® does not detach the extensions.

How Does Latisse® Work?

Latisse® affects the hair growth cycle. All hair has a three-phase cycle with a growth phase followed by a transition phase and then a dormant phase when no growth occurs. The Latisse® active ingredient is bimatoprost, which works to extend the growth phase of the cycle.

This enables the lashes to grow longer in that time. It also stimulates some of the eyelash follicles (roots) to produce more than one lash, which makes the eyelashes thicker. Further, Latisse® stimulates greater production of melanin in the lashes, which makes them darker. Melanin is the pigment that gives us our skin, hair, and eye color.

Possible Mild Side Effects

There may be some redness and itchiness at first. However, as you become used to using Latisse®, those conditions will typically fade away.
