In order to meet the diverse needs of his patients, Matt Chhatre, M.D., F.A.C.S., offers a range of breast implant options at his Kansas City area clinic.
After choosing the right surgeon, the breast implant itself is the single most important decision you have to make in considering your breast augmentation surgery. In order to get a result that looks natural and attractive for your body, you must consider many variables. Dr. Chhatre will use his extensive breast enlargement surgery experience to help you make these decisions.
In 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) re-approved silicone breast implants for aesthetic breast augmentation. The silicone implants which are available today are very different from the ones used in 1970s and 1980s. Called silicone cohesive gel implants, they are made of strong and durable shells and filled with a firm, cohesive gel. Both silicone and saline breast implants are excellent solutions for breast enlargement surgery, and we will help you to make an informed decision in choosing the right variety for you. Breast Implant Sizes
Silicone breast implants come pre-filled with silicone gel, but saline implants are filled during the procedure. Both implants come in a wide range of sizes. To select the right size, you and Dr. Chhatre will discuss your aesthetic goals. You may bring photos that approximate the look you want to achieve, or perhaps clothing you would like to fit better. He will consider your height, weight, and body frame to determine the proper size of breast implant for your procedure.
Breast Implant Shape
Breast implants come in a variety of shapes. The most common shapes are round, smooth-surfaced implants with either moderate or high profiles. During your initial consultation, Dr. Chhatre will help you choose the best option.
There are several varieties of breast augmentation procedures. Although Dr. Chhatre has performed nearly all of these procedures, he has learned through his experience that some variations are more universally suited for his patients than others. For example, he prefers to make an inframammary incision when placing breast implants. The inframammary incision is placed in the natural crease under the breast to provide for proper implant placement, as well as to reduce scar visibility. There are many other advantages to inframammary incisions, including:
- Allows me to work close to the breast, providing optimal visibility while working
- Does not disturb the breast tissue, or the milk ducts, posing less risk of damage to those areas.
- Does not interfere with the nipple sensation
- Provides less conspicuous scarring

Risks of Breast Implant Surgery
Breast augmentation can give you outstanding results that will make your bustline look stunning, and elevate your self-esteem to exciting new heights. However, it is important to note that all surgical procedures involve a degree of risk. Possible risks of breast augmentation include capsular contracture, or the formation of scar tissue around the implant, which causes an unnaturally round look in the breasts. Implants can become displaced or deflated, and in some cases, infection can occur.
Select the Right Surgeon
The best way to avoid dissatisfaction with your cosmetic surgery is to choose a plastic surgeon with credentials and experience. Dr. Matt Chhatre is highly reputable, and an expert in his field. He is a certified plastic surgeon, a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, a fellow at the American College of Surgeons, and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
